COURSE TITLE: Digital Imaging II

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will apply advanced digital imaging techniques to self-designed projects that are related to their major area of study.
COURSE OUTCOMES
The student will be able to:
- Analyze digital media’s impact on various media production, and distribution systems and associated copyright issues.
- Apply digital imaging to their major area of study.
- Understand the benefits of utilizing digital drawing tablets with a requirement for Digital Illustration and Animation students to use both.
- Utilize and understand the benefits of using extended monitors.
- Create a contemporary portrait using, Flash or Illustrator drawing tools, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
- Create, using Flash or Illustrator, an iconographic series of images based on a common theme which should include manipulated type.
- Create, using Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Painter, sophisticated surface textures and/or patterns applied to a wall treatment, textile or object.
- Create an environment with mood, strong lighting, along with the illusion of space, using compositing and/or painting techniques available in Photoshop and/or Painter, then prepare and proof the image for high quality printed output.
- Prepare and produce images for output in an alternative process that can include but is not limited to laser etching, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, rubber stamp or lasertran.
- Discuss, debate, and ideate digital imaging works for the purpose of advancing projects in progress, and critiquing finished projects as a member of a review group.
More than 3 unexcused absences will negatively affect your grade. Each absence beyond 3 will continue to negatively affect your grade. Arriving to class late will also lower your grade
INTERNET ACCESS:
You may use the internet for assignment research only during class.
IN CLASS:
Instructor will perform demonstrations on using the computer software. You will work on assignments during class and obtain individualized instruction.
CLASS CRITIQUES:
We will have a group critique for every project. You are expected to participate fully in every critique. Skipping critiques will negatively affect your grade.
OUTSIDE OF CLASS:
You will be performing research and gathering information for your assignments. You be expected to put in extra time completing or reworking some assignments.

Timeliness and presentation
Quality of research and assignment preparation
Layout
Effective conceptual develpment
Participation
We do not grade per project but give one, final grade at the end of the semester.
